The Unengaged Bride

Guess Who’s Back…

Okay let me first apologize for being so neglectful of this blog that I love so much. I’ve started working on my master’s thesis proposal and it has been taking up wayyy too much of my time. Secondly, a few announcements…..

1. I’m starting a new segment called The Road to The Aisle where I follow brides down the aisle from engagement to wedding date. I have my first bride but if anyone knows any brides who would be cool to “shadow” let me know.

2. I have been asked to start an advice column. (i know i was shocked too lol). BUT I do have a history in counseling, so I am actually pretty good, I got A’s in all the classes so that counts for something, right?. Be on the look out for an email address where you can send anonymous questions.

3. I also have a great idea to start a column called #BridesmaidProblems. Basically a way for us single girls surrounded by engaged girls to let off some steam. Once again, this will be anonymous.

4. IM STARTING A TWITTER!!!!!! GET EXCITED!

Dating Yourself…..

This weekend, I conquered one of my biggest fears……Going to the movies ALONE (gasp). I have literally been contemplating doing it for months, but could never actually will myself to do it. But since everyone I know saw Red Tails opening night, I had to grit my teeth and bare it. And to my surprise it actually wasn’t bad at all, actually much easier than eating at a restaurant alone. I feel like the more time I spend alone with myself, the more I am learning what I am actually looking for.

Below are my tips for taking yourself out on dates:

1) Eating alone for the first time is tough, Take a book or work, it makes it much easier.

2) Order all three courses. I mean you might as well splurge, your date is worth it :) (also dining alone is a great way to get hookups at restaurants, I’ve gotten free appetizers and desserts just brought to me. Sometimes people thinking you’re lonely is a good thing lol)

3) There is something beautiful about people watching. Humans are fascinating, take the time to just sit and watch.

4) If you’re extremely scared of looking like a loser, start off slow, go to the mall alone and eat in the food court or eat alone inside a fast food place or diner. Look around, I am positive you will not be the only lone eater.

5) If all else fails, text everyone in your phone book lol. Someone will hold a conversation with you.

6) Don’t spend the whole time talking on the phone, it’s tempting, BUT it defeats the purpose of being with yourself.

7) Imagine what you would want in a date if he was there. This is going back to adolescent years, but using your imagination to see what you want in a guy allows you to learn about what it is you want.

8) When going to the movies alone, buy snacks before walking in the movie, you won’t want to get up and there’s no one to save you a seat.

9) People are going to gravitate towards you when you are alone, something about the confidence it takes to do that makes people want to talk to you, prepare to be friendly.

10) Try something new. See a movie you would never see with your friends. Try a foreign delicacy or a new restaurant. The fact that it’s new will help take your mind off of the fact that you’re alone.

11) Avoid chain restaurants. Red Lobsters, Applebee’s, Friday’s……You WILL feel awkward. I guarantee it. I know the biscuits at Red Lobster are tempting, but as soon as you see some couple on a date, you will get in your feelings. Don’t do it to yourself.

12) Get dolled up. Treat it as though you’re going somewhere with a guy. Then imagine all the people wondering about that fabulous uber-confident girl in the corner eating alone.

13) Report back to me with details.

Muah XOXOXOXO

YES. YES. YES. YESSSSSSS.

A Wedding Inspired Golden Globe Red Carpet…

Last night, The Golden Globe red carpet was a sea of nudes and muted color palettes with minimal jewelry and bronzed skin. It was also a night where most of the women could have easily been walking down the aisle as brides. Definitely a good night of inspiration for the blog.

Case and Point:

Side bar: WTF?? Jessica Biel with NO engagement ring :(

Piper Perabo in this See-thru Princess gown was a bit much, but Bridal nonetheless.

Elle Macpherson in Zac Posen (a popular designer last night).

Bridal designer Reem Acra was absolutely the most popular designer of the night. And apparently, all the stylists think there is only one age appropriate silouette for the over 40 crowd.

Julie Bowen did look absolutely AMAZING though.

Really, Does Madonna age? I think not.

Diane Lane….Timeless Grace and Beauty. LOVES IT!

Sofia Vergara switched it up a little bit and went for a Vera Wang Gown in Navy Blue.

Sarah Michelle Gellar wore a hideous (GASP!) Monique Lhullier gown that her two year old supposedly picked out. Luckily, Jessica Alba’s daughter has more taste, her mom’s gown was fabulous.

Finally, Charlize Theron was my absolute favorite look of the night in Dior. Her headpiece also gives a little hint to Bridal wear this year, they are going to be very popular with brides in the coming seasons (See Reem Acra Fall 2012 Post Below). She shut it down; hair, skin, dress, shoes, jewelry, it was just perfection.

My ode to the Brazilian…. (Opinion Piece obviously lol)

As you know, I’ve decided to make the transition to being a regular Brazilian waxing customer. And for the past week, I’ve been ridiculously aware of down there at all times. Wearing cute underwear now gives me that same joy as putting on makeup when your eyebrows are fresh, it’s like a brand new world. shaving does NOT compare…trust!

I’ve rationalized that if I was in a relationship right now, my man would be ridiculously happy because in addition to feeling clean as a whistle, I also feel extremely sexy. Which is totally not a word I EVER use to describe myself. I am
An advocate of anything that gives women confidence inside the bedroom (or anywhere for that matter). So I challenge all my ladies, to take a trip to Brazil, buy some

new underwear and take to the bedroom. And if you’re one of those girls who needs a landing strip, you can get fancy and get his initials or something. Guys are like dogs in that way, he’ll jump around like an idiot because his territory has been marked or at least laugh at your creative gesture. Whatever u choose, he will enjoy the ride I’m sure.

My Favorite TV Couples

I’m currently lying in bed as a result of recurring back pain, so I’m watching a lot of TV. During a current episode of Scrubs, I decided that I should post on my favorite TV couples.

1. Turk and Carla from Scrubs.

They are my absolute FAVORITE tv couple because the writers made them sooo realistic. From Carla having to monitor Turk’s Diabetes to her becoming fed up numerous times with his bromance with J.D (Zach Braff’s character). Even though his character came off extremely immature at times, he did some of the most amazing things (i.e spending months learning spanish for their anniversary). Sigh I love them. I need a Turk to my Carla.

2. Micheal Westen and Fiona Glenanne from Burn Notice

All females who claim to be ride or die chicks have NO idea what that means until you have watched a few episodes of Burn Notice. Fiona embodies the female who will do anything to keep her man safe. For example, in this past season, Micheal was being blackmailed by a man who had information that would send Fiona to prison for life. So after watching him bend over backwards and jeopardize the career he’d faught so hard to gain, for his blackmailer, Fi (as he so affectionately calls her), turns herself into the federal courthouse and admits to the crime, so Michael could have his life back. Now how many of us are down for our man like that? …….EXACTLY my point lol.

3. Jim and Pam Halpert from The Office

From day one, every fan of The Office was dying for Jim and Pam to end up together. It was a slow build, and everytime the writers put them in a relationship with someone else, I wanted to throw things at the TV. Their on-screen chemistry is amazing, as you can see from the above photo. AND there is nothing I love more than a sarcastic couple, and when it comes to sarcasm, they are the King and Queen of it.

Auld Lang Syne….New Beginnings.

So….I’ve been neglecting the blog because of the holidays and I have been fully enjoying my time off from everything. But now it’s officially the new year, vacations are winding down, and it’s almost time to go back to work/school (boooo). So instead of making a resolutions list, I have made a sort of to-do list for the year. Let’s see how much I get done….

1. Get Brazilian waxes regularly. I’m a lazy shaver, so this is the best option even when no ones gonna see it.

2. Raise my credit score to my desired number. (s/o to Suze Orman).

3. Get a New Car. (Thus why a raised credit score is important).

4. Make a final decision on Med/PHD/DPT school aka What Am I Going to Do with My Life after my masters is completed.

5. Go to Coachella (this one is non-negotiable, I’m there).

6. Have an amazing 23rd Birthday Party.

7. Go on a Date with one of those guys who approaches me and I am immediately uninterested. (Maybe there’s a needle in that haystack).

8. Go on a date with a white guy. (I need this to happen lol).

9. Utilize my Yoga Membership.

10. Take as many pictures as possible. I want to remember all these moments.

11. Help Plan a wedding or engagement party.

12. Go to movies by myself.

13. Read a book for leisure AT LEAST once a month.

14. Recite affirmations to myself in the mirror daily until I believe them.

15. Have someone to cuddle with by winter (Even if it’s a puppy).
